Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner in the Center for Mental Health Eating Disorders Program at Toronto General Hospital provides extended nursing care to optimize patient outcomes, enhance safety, efficiency, and accessibility in the treatment of eating disorders. Collaborating closely with the interprofessional team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and allied health professionals, the Nurse Practitioner delivers comprehensive primary care and mental health services. This role primarily focuses on the outpatient setting, supporting the intake process, but may also involve working in the inpatient unit, performing assessments, diagnosing, prescribing laboratory tests, investigations, and medications as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in guiding quality improvement initiatives within the Eating Disorders Program.
  • Participate in policy and procedure development to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Engage in evidence-informed practice by critically appraising and applying research and best practice guidelines, and performing research activities.
  • Deliver, coordinate, and participate in educational and professional development activities/programs.
  • Act as a resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospitals/agencies.
  • Perform cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Master’s Degree Program in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (Extended Class) certification complete.
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) Primary Care certificate complete.
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Membership in the Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario (NPAO) and other organizations relevant to the role.
  • Three to five years of nursing experience in an acute treatment center preferred.
  • Experience with mental health care an asset.
  • Experience in nursing research methodology preferred.
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent decision-making, problem recognition, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
