Position Summary

The Senior Staff Nurse – Outpatient Clinic at NMC Specialty Hospital in Dubai provides leadership in delivering age-specific, patient-centered care and coordinates care-related activities in the Outpatient Clinic. This role involves supervising nursing staff, ensuring accurate documentation, and supporting quality improvement initiatives. The Senior Staff Nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes, adhering to UAE regulations and Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, including International Patient Safety Goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Perform problem-focused and age-specific patient assessments, including continual critical care assessments of physical and psychological needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and revise care plans, involving patients and significant others as appropriate.
  • Assist staff nurses and care assistants in planning, implementing, and evaluating direct patient care.
  • Ensure accurate nursing documentation per hospital policies and procedures.
  • Promote incident reporting, customer complaint resolution, and patient satisfaction surveys to improve care quality.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, nurses, and physicians regarding follow-up care and instructions.
  • Ensure nursing pre-screening is completed 48 hours before appointments and maintain quality checklists with action plans for deficiencies.
  • Oversee monthly environmental rounds audits, follow up on deficiencies, and ensure clinic stock levels meet required par levels.
  • Ensure timely closure of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) requests and address quality round deficiencies with action plans.
  • Support preparation of nursing clinical slides for monthly Quality Improvement (QI) meetings.
  • Follow up on approved but unutilized tests, coordinate with insurance coordinators on pending approvals, and update patients on status.
  • Ensure no patient walkouts occur and address safe points with root cause analysis.
  • Update clinical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) monthly on the Patient Safety Data Board and ensure the Patient Tracker is current.
  • Enforce staff adherence to dress code and maintain a safe and friendly environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Safely handle and administer Narcotic/Controlled and Semi-Controlled Drugs, following policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including data collection, incident reporting, and audits.
  • Uphold infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, including strict hand hygiene, bare below the elbows, and environmental care.
  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (OSHMS), reporting hazards and participating in training and drills.
  • Complete mandatory education (e.g., fire, safety, infection control, Resuscitation Quality Improvement) and maintain core and unit-specific competencies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, unit committees/projects, and ongoing educational activities to maintain clinical and professional competency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (minimum 3 years full-time course duration) or Degree in Nursing (minimum 2 years course duration) with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of recent post-graduate experience in an Outpatient Clinic setting.
  • Valid license/registration to practice in home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent, per scope of practice.
  • Previous experience as a Team Leader or Senior Registered Nurse is an advantage.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide care based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.
  • Skills in assessing physical and psychological needs of patients and families, and coordinating and prioritizing care.
  • For UAE nationals: Exempt from experience and clinical training requirements (must submit birth certificate and mother’s family book).
  • For non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities: Must complete 6 months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
