Job Summary

This is a physician position responsible for the overall Medical Oncology leadership at Cancer Institute, including all issues regarding leadership, operational, fiscal and human resource management. This position is responsible for the integration of all Hematology & Oncology services at the Cancer Institute into CCAD's strategic plan.

Physician Responsibilities

  • Monitor and provide care to patients at CCAD within Cancer Institute
  • Prescribe or administer medication, therapy and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease or injury
  • Provide specific treatments and/or perform operations to treat patient medical conditions
  • Liaison with other medical and non-medical staff at CCAD to ensure quality patient treatment
  • Supply, provide and manage care in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic plan for the Division that supports the strategic direction of CCAD
  • Define the Division's scope and direction in the areas of patient care, education and research
  • Create a vision and support members of the Division in their pursuit of excellence in patient care, education and research
  • Recommend criteria for selecting the Division's professional staff and choose or recommend individuals who meet those criteria
  • Participate as a member of the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) and assume administrative responsibilities on behalf of the organization

Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee and resolve issues relating to resource utilization, productivity and other administrative functions
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of patient care provided within the Division
  • Ensure that the Division provides appropriate clinical outcomes data and physician level performance metrics
  • Identify opportunities for Divisional performance improvement from both clinical and administrative perspective

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Adhere to budget for the Division and analyze and explain budget variances
  • Ensure that all Division expenditures are in accordance with current CCAD policy

Human Resources Management Responsibilities

  • Participate in reviewing and approving plans and expenses involved in the recruitment of staff members
  • Perform annual professional review for staff
  • Monitor and ensure high quality education and research programs
  • Recommend compensation adjustments or requirements that are within budget guidelines
  • Recruit physician staff through a careful review of candidates and selection process

Experience Requirements

  • For Physicians from Tier 1 countries, not less than two (2) years additional experience post qualification
  • Must hold a valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team of health care professionals
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff
  • Ability to speak and write in English is required

Education Requirements

  • MD, MBBS, MBChB or DO (only if the specialization is obtained from American Board of Medical Specialties or Certificates of Specializations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) or equivalent qualification from an accredited Institution and completion of specialty qualification as per the Recognized Specialty Certificate table listed in Healthcare Professionals Qualification Requirements 2024

Department Chair Position: This is a senior executive leadership role responsible for overall Medical Oncology leadership at the Cancer Institute, including strategic planning, fiscal management, and integration of all Hematology & Oncology services into CCAD's strategic plan.
