🏥 Responsibilities – What You Will Do:

These are your main duties as a Consultant Pathologist, focusing on both laboratory operations and diagnostic excellence:


🔬 1. Stay Updated with Medical Advancements

  • Keep yourself informed of the latest scientific and technological developments in the field of pathology.
  • This includes new analytical techniques, disease classifications, automation systems, and AI/ML usage in diagnostics.
  • Helps maintain high-quality, evidence-based diagnostic standards in the lab.

🧪 2. Lead Cytopathology Laboratory Services

  • Oversee daily operations and staff in the cytopathology lab (which deals with examining cells for abnormalities such as cancer).
  • Ensure the department runs efficiently, meets quality benchmarks, and follows regulatory standards.
  • Provide expert supervision to lab technologists and junior pathologists.

🩸 3. Conduct Blood Analysis

  • Perform evaluation of blood samples for purposes such as:
    • Blood typing (e.g., A, B, O),
    • Cell morphology (appearance of blood cells under a microscope),
    • Compatibility testing (ensuring donor and recipient blood types match for transfusions).
  • Vital for surgery prep, trauma care, cancer patients, and more.

🧫 4. Perform Gross & Anatomical Pathology

  • Gross examinations: Inspect organs or tissues visually before microscopic analysis.
  • Anatomical pathology: Diagnose diseases by examining organs, tissues, and whole body parts (e.g., during biopsies or autopsies).
  • Participate in specialized diagnosis—cancer staging, inflammation, infections, etc.

🧼 5. Ensure Proper Sample Handling

  • Guarantee safe, sterile, and traceable collection, labeling, transport, and storage of patient samples.
  • Prevent errors that could lead to misdiagnosis or treatment delays.
  • Oversee compliance with lab protocols and biosafety guidelines.

📋 6. Maintain Lab Documentation & Patient Records

  • Enter test results into electronic medical records (EMRs) accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain detailed logs of test orders, specimen status, and final reports for clinical teams.
  • Supports traceability and legal/clinical accountability.

📝 7. Write Diagnostic Reports

  • Deliver clear, well-structured pathology reports, including:
    • Final diagnosis,
    • Description of findings,
    • Clinical correlation suggestions,
    • Recommendations (if needed).
  • These reports assist clinicians in making accurate treatment decisions.

📋 Requirements & Qualifications – What You Need to Apply:

This section outlines the minimum eligibility and ideal candidate profile for the position.

  • Medical degree from an accredited university.
  • Board Certification in Pathology (Anatomic &/or Clinical).
  • Preferred: Certification in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a Pathologist.
  • Proven ability to work in a medical laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and analytical skills.
